Is Academia Behind The Times?

"Those who can do, those who can't teach" may seem a little cliché, however just because it is doesn't mean it's not true.

My experience of academia (from albeit a while ago) was that the courses and modules had pretty much remained unchanged for 10 years - and why would they change? Presumably those that are teaching the next generation are long terms teachers who love doing just that, teaching. Again, from my experience these people aren't overly that interested in keeping up with the latest trends and technologies that make the web awesome.

So I'd go one step further than "Academia is behind the times", especially for the digital work sphere, I'd say "Academia is of no use or consequence".

I agree. I got my first job in web design before I'd even completed my degree. I ended up with a 2:1 but I can say with certainty that nobody in the company would have cared if I'd have completely failed.
